  • Structured Literacy

    Structured Literacy is explicit, systematic teaching that focuses on phonological awareness, word recognition, phonics and decoding, spelling, and syntax at the sentence and paragraph levels. ... Rather, students are encouraged to use word analogies and pictures or context to identify words.

  • Ongoing and Individualized Assessment

    Reading assessments are an essential guiding tool for effective instructional planning. Used to inform, plan and map out specific needs. Assessments provide data on mastered and unmastered skill areas. Letter identification, sound recognition, phonological awareness, comprehension, fluency and engagement.

  • Intensive, Consistent and Comprehensive

    Readnasium strives to foster educators, teachers, parents and students with an intense and comprehensive approach to reading instruction. Students who engage in this form of instruction on a consist basis typically improve in the areas of phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, fluency, encoding/decoding and within time reading comprehension. Our goal is to help students enjoy reading independently.

  • A Multi-sensory Approach

    Multisensory instruction is a method that involves engaging more than one sense at a time. This type of instruction involves using visual, auditory and kinesthetic-tactile pathways. Research shows that a multisensory approach can enhance the brains ability to remember and increase the ability to learn. Studies also show that this form of instruction is engaging and motivational to young learners.

  • Stephanie McKee

    FOUNDER

    Ms. Stephanie McKee is one of the Co-Founders of Readnasium LLC. Ms. McKee received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology from Hampton University and her Master of Arts in Teaching from Fairleigh Dickinson University. While teaching third grade, Ms. McKee earned her second Masters of Arts in Teaching as a Reading/Literacy Specialist. In addition to her teaching degrees, she also holds an Orton Gillingham certificate through the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) in association with FDU. She is also a member of the International Dyslexia Association (IDA) and the International Literacy Association (ILA).

    Ms. McKee has over 20 years of education experience, which includes working with students with disabilities in an inclusion setting. She was recently recognized and honored as the Governor’s Educator Support Services for the 2020/2021 school year. During the span of her career she has served as an Advocate and Tutor for students who struggle with reading and learning.

    Her warm and guiding approach to teaching stems from her community involvement, as well as her experience as a mother. Ms. McKee comes from a line of educators and her philosophy on learning is that every child has the ability to learn and thrive.

  • Jemara Blount

    FOUNDER

    Jemara Blount is a certified teacher in a heavily populated town in Northern NJ. She obtained her Bachelor’s at Hampton University with a Minor in Literacy and went on to pursue her Masters of Arts in Teaching at Fairleigh Dickinson University as well as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities Certificate. Due to an overwhelming need to help struggling readers she went on to further her studies and currently maintains an Orton-Gillingham Certification which enables her to service students with reading disabilities including Dyslexia.

    Ms. Blount has over 10 years of teaching experience and several hundred hours of private tutoring experience with proven methods that increase reading ability. She currently serves as a reading specialist and tutor for students ranging from age 4 to 12. She utilizes the multi-sensory approach to reading in conjunction with various comprehension strategies that help build student’s overall confidence and reading levels.

    When she is not working in education she can be found attending sporting events with her young teenagers or working in her garden. She believes that all students are capable of achievement, and she is dedicated to sharing her expertise with as many educators, students and parents in order to achieve that goal.
